What is SailGP?
Intense races, iconic global venues, elite teams and record-breaking speeds – SailGP is the most exciting racing on water.
How SailGP is supporting the race for a better future
With the ambition to be the world’s most sustainable and purpose-driven global sports and entertainment platform, SailGP is the world’s most exciting racing on water.
Rival nations go head-to-head at iconic venues around the world, with each event featuring sailing’s best athletes racing in identical F50 catamarans at record-breaking speeds approaching 100 km/h.
The Sail Grand Prix: from fleet races to the Grand Final
Events are made up of multiple races and take place across two days, with seven races scheduled for each Sail Grand Prix. The first day includes three fleet races, while the remaining three fleet races take place on the second day before the event winner is crowned in the final – the last race of the Sail Grand Prix.
At the end of each Sail Grand Prix season is the Grand Final, where the three highest ranked teams from the season will go head-to-head to be crowned the SailGP champion.
Championing a world powered by nature
SailGP also races for a better future and has set a target to become 100% powered by clean energy, both on and off the water, by 2025. The championship is an industry-leading sustainable and purpose-driven global sports platform, with a commitment to deliver positive impact with endorsement from leading bodies such as the UN. For example, SailGP achieved triple-gold recognition in the United Nations Climate Neutral Now initiative.
The Impact League: competing for positive impact
The Impact League is a world-first initiative that sees teams compete for a second championship, tracking the actions the competing teams make to reduce their overall carbon footprint and help accelerate inclusivity in sailing.
SailGP developed the Impact League to put sustainability and inclusion at the heart of sport. Through showcasing the competing teams’ activities, they aim to encourage fans to take action to make more sustainable choices.
