Around 200 guests including clients and figures from Rome's institutional and cultural world attended an evening event hosted by Deutsche Bank Wealth Management and Frieze at Palazzo Barberini dedicated to discussing contemporary art with renowned German artist, Karin Kneffel and the director of the National Portrait Gallery in London, Nicholas Cullinan.
Karin Kneffel recounted the genesis of her practice, from the first portraits of animals to her latest works, which are currently on display in a personal exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in Rome, the city where the artist lived and that influenced many of her works.
In addition to the artist’s link with the city, Kneffel also shares a long-standing relationship with Deutsche Bank: in fact, her works are part of the Deutsche Bank Collection. Starting with the first purchases in 1993 in a small gallery in Frankfurt, the Bank's contemporary art collection now includes various pieces including watercolours and paintings.
Held on November 10, 2022, the latest in our Art of Conversation series follows successful events held in Venice at Palazzo Ligabue during the opening days of the 59th Biennale and in Milan at the Luigi Rovati Foundation. The Rome event was hosted in an equally splendid location: the Palazzo Barberini, a unique seventeenth-century building housing the treasures of the National Gallery of Ancient Art and the Italian Institute of Numismatics. The gallery's collection includes more than 500 masterpieces of Italian and foreign painting, including works by Bernini, Caravaggio, van Dyck, Raphael, Tintoretto, Rubens and Titian.
