The Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award 2023

The winners of both the Jury Award and the Audience Award were announced during an invitation-only ceremony held in the Deutsche Bank Wealth Management Lounge at Frieze Los Angeles 2023.

Now in its fourth year, the Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award, in partnership with Ghetto Film School and FIFTH SEASON, provides a platform and development programme for emerging Los Angeles-based filmmakers.

Irene Gil-Ramon was selected as the winner of the Jury Award by a panel composed of leading figures in contemporary art and entertainment including Jay Ellis (Actor, Director and Producer), Cristina Garza (SVP, Development and Production, FIFTH SEASON), Matt Jackson (Producer), Christine Messineo (Director of Americas, Frieze), Montea Robinson (CEO, Ghetto Film School), Legacy Russell (Executive Director & Chief Curator of The Kitchen), and Claudio de Sanctis (Head of the International Private Bank & CEO of EMEA, Deutsche Bank). Originally from Spain, Gil-Ramon also stars in her film Best Day of My Life (in LA), which takes the main character through a seemingly never-ending errand throughout the city.

Shandrea Evans is the winner of this year’s Audience Award, as voted for by members of the public. Her film Saturday centers on a young woman who is homesick in her new city of Los Angeles. A reluctant visit with her great aunt turns into an exploration of friendship, community, and shared histories.

Claudio de Sanctis, Head of Deutsche Bank International Private Bank and CEO of EMEA, Deutsche Bank, said: "I have been thoroughly impressed by the quality of films produced by such a talented group of emerging artists. This year’s theme could not have been more relevant and important in our world today and my sincere congratulations go to our two winners.  I am delighted that for the first time both the jury and audience awards have been won by women, showcasing the depth of diverse talent that exists here in Los Angeles.’
